Episode 4 - Getting Back To Life

 Back to school

When I came home, the next day I just went straight back to school because i was determined to talk with my friends and get back to a normal life. However, it was not as easy as I thought! A BUNCH OF KIDS were asking me, Hudson-Hudson what happened to your hand and I was so so tired of telling everybody but, I also thought it would be rude to just ignore them so I was just MISERABLE.

I could not just go back and play basketball just like that because my hand was very injured, so if I got hit with the ball, I'm dead meat. After a while I got to get back to baseketball but it wasn't easy it was HARD I MEAN HARD. My mom had to get a doctors note then give it to the principal, but then whenever i tried to play baseketball the supervisors would say- hey you are not allowed to play because of your hand, but my mom had just gave me a doctors note so i pulled it out and said this is the doctor's note.

Struggles of living with an injured hand

I always have people come and ask  me about my hand and I've i told everybody so many times, i think "why do i have to do this". I also have been struggling with so much other stuff. For example, the most hardest thing i try to play basketball and everyone is just underestimating me and not passing to me.

Struggles of the dressing changes

[note dressing changes are referring the the daily(ish) times Hudson's wrappings and ointments on his injury had to be changed out]

The dressing changes were one of the most hardest things about my accident. It hurt so bad there was gauze and some wrap that would cover my injury. The guze would get stuck to my hand and when my parents took it off it hurt SO SO BAD. I would just cry and cry and cry it hurt but i had to do it every day, but thankfully after so long i finally got to stop doing dressing changes.

Dad's note:

This has been an especially hard week for Hudson. He found out at a Dr.'s appointment there is a chance he may have to have another surgery and/or he may not get full functionality out of his middle finger. He's been working so hard on his physical therapy to get his fingers functioning again, so it was a pretty heavy blow. While that's certainly made for a harder week for all of us, I'm so proud of Hudson for sticking with his blog this week and finding it within himself to both feel the weight of his feelings and talk about the hard stuff, while also looking for silver linings and working to find things to be positive about.

  1. You’re really brave man I can’t imagine what you’re going through. When people ask you can just give them the link to your blog when they ask & say you put everything there.

You are so brave to share your story. I know it must be annoying to keep explaining your hand, but it’s really nice of you to do it anyway—your friends care about you a lot!

It’s awesome that you’re sticking with basketball, even though it’s hard. That moment with the doctor’s note? So cool! You’re showing everyone how strong you are.

I’m sorry the dressing changes hurt so much, but you got through it like a warrior. Keep being amazing, Hudson—I’m cheering you on!
